To say Star Wars has been a major part of my childhood would be an understatement, and like most people my age we have continued our great affection for the franchise into our adult lives.
Romantic Comedies, how I loath thee. It seems there are hundreds that come out every year and for the most part they aren’t much to write about, but this year we were given two this that really rise above the rest, Away We Go, and (500) Days of Summer, but these two films proved there is a way to bring something fresh and new to one …
There are very few directors out there whose work I follow almost religiously; Quentin Tarantino is one of them. Tarantino has been working on Inglourious Basterds for the better part of a decade now, always putting it aside for other projects (Kill Bill, and Grindhouse). After those two projects he decided to move forwa…
For the most part I enjoy Ben Stiller’s work, he has been a very funny part of most of my life, with films like Zoolander, The Cable Guy (which he directed), and There’s Something about Mary. Thats why I can’t really fault him for making movies like Madagascar, and Night at The Museum. But to my surprise I actually found myself enjoying the first Night at the Museum movie so when a sequel was announced I gave thought I would give it a shot.
Ahh the Christmas season, for some it’s a time of loving and caring, for others it involves breaking into other peoples homes and stealing their presents, or a bevy of “Santa’s” bringing you gifts to sleep with your mom, or even your dad buying all the stuff you wanted for himself.
Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey are needless to day some of the best actors working today, so in 1998 F. Gary Gray (Friday, Set It Off) put the two of them together in The Negotiator and honestly while the movie itself is just a fairly standard thriller, it is remembered so fairly because of the performances by the main actors.
Transformers 2 ( Blu-ray )
Sequels are rarely ever better than the original that came before it, but occasionally you get one that shines through. Unfortunately Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen does not surpass the original but it does a good job at being consistent with the first. Taking place a couple of years after the events of [...]
Sons of Anarchy(Blu-ray)
There’s no question, for quality television you need not look further than cable, while the major networks have a few good shows here and there, within the past couple of years the cable networks have stepped their games up. Not limited by the strict standards of the major broadcast networks the shows on [...]
I Love You, Man (Blu-ray)
We seem to be in a new comedy age in this decade, the late 90’s and early 2000’s gave us the rebirth and slow death of the Teen Comedy, now thanks to people like Judd Apatow and Kevin Smith more adult oriented comedy is coming front and center. When Pete (Paul [...]
Watchmen: Directors Cut (Blu-ray)
The 80’s were turbulant times politically: The cold war was coming to an end, capitalism was running rampant (partially leading to the economic crisis were in now). But in that time of trouble was a great time of creativity in all forms of media including comics. In this era we were blessed [...]
Friday the 13th [2009] (Blu-ray)
Slasher films have become oversaturated in the film landscape since the 1980’s and one of the Godfather’s of the genre have been the Friday the 13th franchise. Well now the people behind the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake (Michael Bay and his Platnium Dunes production company) and director Marcus Nispel have decided [...]
Defiance(Blu-ray)
I said in my review of Valkyrie that I was just about done with films surrounding World War II, but occasionally I am a suprised. Ed Zwick has been a favorite director of mine for a little while (Glory was fantastic), so when I heard he was doing another war picture I figured I would [...]
