Family Guy: SSSDS ( Blu-ray )

To say Star Wars has been a major part of my childhood would be an understatement, and like most people my age we have continued our great affection for the franchise into our adult lives. Family Guy’s first foray into the galaxy far far away was a huge success so it was only a matter of time before they decided to do the rest of George Lucas’ original trilogy and now we have Family Guy: Something, Something, Something, Dark Side.
A retelling of The Empire Strikes Back with the Family Guy touch. If you are reading this review I’m sure you are already familiar with the story so there is really no need to get into the details.
What I wouldn’t give for a proper HD transfer of this, but sadly Fox has given this disc a 1.33:1 Full Screen transfer (even though in the commentary Seth MacFarlane talks about shooting it in HD). Aspect ratio controversy aside the quality of the video is top notch there are no imperfections to be seen anywhere. The Audio is the real star of this disc, using John Williams’ original score the 5.1 DTS-Master Audio track is a fantastic listen.
Sadly the special features don’t offer much you do get a audio commentary with the creators, a pop-up trivia feature and a look at the table read for Family Guy-Episode VI: We Have a Bad Feeling About This (the retelling of Return of the Jedi), as well as a Digital Copy on disc 2.
If you are a die hard Star Wars fan, or a fan of Family Guy this is a no brainer, but it’s not without its flaws. Do yourself a favor and give it a rent before deciding if you want to purchase it or not.
