Sons of Anarchy(Blu-ray)

There’s no question, for quality television you need not look further than cable, while the major networks have a few good shows here and there, within the past couple of years the cable networks have stepped their games up. Not limited by the strict standards of the major broadcast networks the shows on cable can get a way with a lot more content wise than you would think. One of the networks pushing the envelope is FX, as their hit series The Shield drew to a close they needed a fresh series that could fill that void. And Sons of Anarchy came along like a freight train with a very strong first season.
Drawing heavily from Shakespeare and is specifically inspired by Hamlet. Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller (Charlie Hunnam – Green Street Hooligans) is the vice-president of the Sons of Anarchy (or SAMCRO) a motorcycle club that run the small fictitious town of Charming, California. After the premature birth of his son he begins to question his involvement with the clubs less than legal activities. But club president and step-father Clay Morrow (Ron Pearlman – Hellboy) and his mother Gemma (Katie Sagal – Married with Children) fight to keep Jax “focused”. Presented with a 1080p 1.78:1 High Definition transfer Sons of Anarchy is a very natural looking show, there isn’t a lot of overly stylized shots and bright neon lights, there are a lot of browns, blacks and tans in the color pallet and the transfer shows them off perfectly. The 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track is stellar as well, sounds are evenly balanced, and the surrounds are active when they need to be. The disc also has a few interesting special features as well, including commentary on selected episodes, making of featurettes, and deleted scenes.
