I Love You, Man (Blu-ray)

We seem to be in a new comedy age in this decade, the late 90’s and early 2000’s gave us the rebirth and slow death of the Teen Comedy, now thanks to people like Judd Apatow and Kevin Smith more adult oriented comedy is coming front and center. When Pete (Paul Rudd – The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up) gets engaged to the girl of his dreams (Rashida Jones – The Office) they quickly realize that he has no male friends to be his best man until he meets Sydney (Jason Segel -How I Met Your Mother, Forgetting Sarah Marshall). Peter and Sydney’s “bromance” takes male bonding to hilarious new heights in a story that explores what it truly means to be a friend. I Love You, Man is a very funny film that is among the best in the recent group of comedies that have come out recently, Segel and Rudd have proven before that they have great chemistry together and this movie gives you more of that great connection between the two of them.
There is one thing that is certain comedy isn’t really a genre that benefits from the HD upgrade. Not to say that I Love You, Man doesn’t look good, it does; just don’t be prepared to be blown away by this disc. The 5.1 Dolby TrueHD track also does a serviceable job, because it is a very dialogue driven film there isn’t really a lot of opportunity for it to blow you away, though the audio does get a workout during the scene at the Rush concert (yes, ladies and gentlemen there is a Rush concert). The extras however do not disappoint this disc is packed with some good special features. You get an Audio Commentary with the director John Hamburg and actors Paul Rudd and Jason Segel. There is also a making of featurette, a Line-O-Rama montage of different improv’s, extended scenes, deleted scenes, and a gag reel. Really everything you would want from a comedy.
