Benjamin Button (Blu-ray)

David Fincher is one of few directors who’s work I will always watch, regardless of what he does. He has proven himself to be one todays elite directors, able to tackle any film genres (Thriller, Drama, Sci-Fi). When it was announced that David Fincher was directing F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” my interest was instantly piqued. It was released on Christmas Day 2008 and still made it to number 3 on our top 10 films of 2008.
Benjamin Button was born under “unusual circumstances”, he ages in reverse and was born as an old man in a baby’s body. As a child he meets Daisy (Cate Blanchett) who would become the love of his life. The film is comprised of far to much to discuss in this limited space, but trust me this film is definitely worth your time. B.Button is the first “Major” Blu-ray release from “The Criterion Collection”, anyone who knows Criterion knows they are the authority on quality and features and they spare no expense on this release. The video is presented in a stunning 2.40:1 1080p transfer, colors literally seem to jump off the screen, there’s also a 5.1 DTS Master Audio track that does not disappoint. On the features front we get an audio commentary with David Fincher which is a must listen for any enthusiast or aspiring filmmaker. On Disc 2 there’s a 3 Hour (Yes I said 3 HOUR) long Making-of-Documentary that spans the films sordid history, pre production, post production and the premier.
